Have you ever wondered what made crocs feel the way they do? They’re so comfortable, soft and pliable, yet they’re so sturdy.
Crocs are made out of a foam resin called croslite, which is made out of a polymer called ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA). Ethylene-vinyl acetate is a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate. Vinyl acetate makes up anywhere from 10 to 40 percent of the copolymer, and the remainder is made up of the ethylene.
This polymer is an elastomeric material (one that is elastic) in its flexibility and softness. Yet, it can be processed like a thermoplastic (a plastic that can be melted into a liquid). EVA is glossy, has a good stress-crack resistance, has a high resistance to UV radiation, and little or no odor to it.
EVA is used as padding in many kinds of shoes, including hockey skates, ski boots, and tennis shoes. Hot stick glues, which are used for arts and crafts activities, are also made of EVA. This is what Crocs use in their signature shoes.
EVA is also sometimes more popularly called expanded rubber or foam rubber.
Crocs bought the company Foam Creations and their manufacturing operations, which secured the exclusive rights to the proprietary foam resin, known as croslite.
The croslite works to the wearer’s best benefit because it forms to the wearer’s feet and, therefore, offers the best support to individual’s unique feet shape. This gives the wearer reported medical benefits, according to many podiatrists. In fact, crocs are the most popular shoe for many allied healthcare professionals in the United States.
Crocs really are a comfortable yet supportive piece of footwear. The standard design of Crocs shoes has a heel strap that keeps that shoe on the food. This strap can also be roll forward to make the shoes a slip-on clog. It has a ventilated toe box, which is the front of the shoe. This airy toe box keeps the feet cooled and comfortable.
Crocs have a supportive foot base that helps the arch of the foot. Lastly, Crocs shoes have air holes in the front of the shoes that help to filter air sand and water through the shoes for the wearer’s ultimate comfort and usability.
Crocs shoes are made mostly in China, but are also made in Florida, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, Romania, and Italy. The Beach and Cayman versions of the Crocs are available in more than 20 colors. Most other styles come in about four to six colors or color-combinations.
All members of the family seem to want or have Crocs. And this is because Crocs come in so many colors, styles and designs. There are over 72 different designs of Crocs, and now there are even Crocs accessories to go along with the footwear.
So, if you want your feet to feel like they went to the medical spa after a day of standing on them, give a pair of crocs a chance you may be surprised at their comfort.
