Weight Loss – Hoodia Gordonii Plus

Hoodia Gordonii Plus is an advanced appetite suppressant, metabolism booster, fat burner and energy enhancer all in one.

This supplement contains thermogenic ingredients which support an exclusive, all-natural supplement with no harmful ingredients like Ephedra, Ma Huang, and Ephedrine.

The “plus” in the name means it is 100% pure South African Hoodia from the Kalahari Desert and certified as such. It is licensed by the Western Cape Conservation Authority of South Africa and is certified to be authentic.

There are two certified documents required to prove the authenticity of pure South African Hoodia – they are the C.I.T.E.S Certificate and the Analytical Report – you can see copies of these reports at the manufacturer’s website provided below.

On November 21, 2004, CBS 60 Minutes aired a program about this weight loss pill and for the first time many people were introduced to this traditional botanical. ABC and the BBC have also done stories on hoodia.

Now word of this amazing product is spreading like wildfire and taking the consumer market by storm.

Hoodia Gordonii Plus image.jpgHoodia gordonii grows in clumps of green upright stems and is actually a succulent, not a cactus.

It is from the Kalahari desert, home of the San People. These Bushmen, who live off the land, would cut off part of the hoodia stem and eat it to ward off hunger and thirst during nomadic hunting trips. They also used it for severe abdominal cramps, hemorrhoids, tuberculosis, indigestion, hypertension and diabetes.

It takes about 5 years before hoodia’s pale purple flowers appear and the cactus can be harvested. Although there are 20 types of this plant, only the hoodia gordonii variety is believed to contain the natural appetite suppressant.

In 1937, a Dutch anthropologist studying the San Bushmen noted that they used hoodia to suppress appetite. But it wasn’t until 1963 when scientists at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), South Africa’s national laboratory, began studying hoodia. Initial results were promising – lab animals lost weight after taking hoodia.

The South African scientists, working with a British company named Phytopharm, isolated the active ingredient in hoodia, a steroidal glycoside, which they named p57. After getting a patent in 1995, they licensed p57 to Phytopharm. Phytopharm has spent more than $20 million on hoodia research.

The discovery of the active ingredient in the plant is proven with clinical research to suppress one’s appetite by up to a maximum of 2000 calories a day. This all natural and organic ingredient is the result of 30 years of research by the CSIR (Council for Scientific and Industrial Research) in South Africa.

In a BBC interview, Phytopharm’s Dr. Richard Dixey explained how P57 works:

“There is a part of your brain, the hypothalamus. Within that mid-brain there are nerve cells that sense glucose sugar. When you eat, blood sugar goes up because of the food, these cells start firing and now you are full. What the Hoodia seems to contain is a molecule that is about 10,000 times as active as glucose. It goes to the mid-brain and actually makes those nerve cells fire as if you were full. But you have not eaten. Nor do you want to.”

So great is the discovery of this weight-loss ingredient that Pfizer, a large pharmaceutical company, was developing a pill, known as P57, based on the hoodia gordonii plant.

Why did Pfizer want to synthesize a product that already worked you may ask?

In America you cannot patent a natural product so the drug companies needed to turn it into a drug by making an un-natural and un-healthy substance so they can patent the product and literally make billions of dollars.

We are somewhat relieved to report that the Working Group of Indigenous Minorities in Southern Africa (WIMSA) contested and recently won their case against multinational pharmaceutical companies seeking to develop a drug from South African Hoodia.

How does Hoodia Gordonii Plus work?

Basically, what happens is that the brain is tricked into thinking there is enough energy (blood sugar) and doesn’t need to eat, so it shuts down the hunger mechanism.

The consensus is that it can take up to 1 to 2 weeks to kick in, however, many people notice the appetite suppressing effects within 1/2 hour of taking a dose of hoodia.

You take it an hour before meals with a glass of water. Be sure to drink enough water, because hoodia will also shut off your thirst mechanism to a certain extent.

And, as was already mentioned, there are no published reports of any harmful side effects after the use of hoodia.

If you are considering buying this supplement and are concerned about whether it will interact with any other medication you are taking, or for any other reason, you should consult with your physician first.

Hoodia Gordonii Plus Ingredients

Magnesium is an essential nutrient, meaning that your body needs it for healthy functioning. It is found in significant quantities throughout the body and used for numerous purposes, including muscle relaxation, blood clotting, and the manufacture of ATP (adenosine triphosphate, the body’s main energy molecule).

It has an ability to block calcium from entering muscle and heart cells. A group of prescription heart medications work in a similar way, although much more powerfully. This may be the basis for some of magnesium’s effects when it is taken as a supplement in fairly high doses.

Garcinia Cambogia Extract

Also known as Garcinia Cambogia or Mangosteen Oil tree, contains a biologically active compound which is known to inhibit the synthesis of lipids and fatty acids and lower the formation of LDL and triglycerides. Garcinia also contains significant amounts of Vitamin C and has been used as a heart tonic.

Research suggests that this natural extract seems to inhibit the conversion of excess calories to body fat. Also, appetite is suppressed by promoting synthesis of glycogen. Glycogen is the stored form of glucose, one of the body’s primary sources of energy. Increased glycogen production and storage is the body’s normal way of signaling the brain’s satiety centre that enough food has been eaten. This has made Garcinia a very effective herbal medicine for controlling obesity and cholesterol.

It is a well established fat burning agent all over the world and is currently becoming popular in America, Japan, Europe and many other western nations. It is recommended as a dieting aid supported by exercise and a balanced nutritional diet.

Green Tea

Here are just a few medical conditions in which green tea is reputed to be somewhat helpful (not a cure of course) – weight control, cancer, rheumatoid arthritis, high cholesterol levels, cardiovascular disease, infection, and impaired immune function.

The secret of green tea lies in the fact it is rich in catechin polyphenols, particularly epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), a powerful anti-oxidant.

Besides inhibiting the growth of cancer cells, it kills cancer cells without harming healthy tissue. It has also been effective in lowering LDL cholesterol levels, and inhibiting the abnormal formation of blood clots. The latter takes on added importance when you consider that thrombosis (the formation of abnormal blood clots) is the leading cause of heart attacks and stroke.
