The company has one of the largest trucking fleets worldwide and also maintains one of the highest standards in safety. Truck driving positions are one of the most sought-after jobs in Wal-Mart because of its reputation for good pay and benefits package and reasonable working hours.

Here below are some of the things you should know if you are looking for a truck driving job at Wal-Mart.

You must have a CDL Class A license for at least three months.

Drivers must have a clean CDL, no felonies or DUI incidents in the last 5 years, must not have been involved in more than 3 moving violations three years prior or more than 2 accidents two years before. They will also disqualify drivers with drug or violence-related felonies.

Truck drivers must have at least a total of 12 months driving experience in the last three (3) years to qualify.

How are the pay and benefits package?
Wal-Mart Stores offer some of the most competitive pay packages in the trucking industry. Senior drivers have a choice should they prefer to work six days six off, six days three off, five days four off, four days four off or seven seven. Full-time drivers can make over $45,000 a year and senior drivers an average of $65,000 or $70,000 a year.

Drivers get paid for mileage and delay time and are given a safety bonus at the year end.

Part-time drivers make on average about $0.60 per mile. This includes Sleeper Berth Pay, Trailer Hook-Up pay, and mileage pay. Part-time truck drivers can make about $30,000 up per year working two to three days a week.

Placement of truck drivers is permanent and they can claim full benefits after sixty (60) days. They can also expect their 401k savings to start immediately.

Wal-Mart observes restorative practice with their corporate vehicle fleet. At present they have more than 100 hybrid vehicles which they will increase to another hundred by 2007. They have chosen these vehicles for their fuel efficiency, environment-friendly performance and they expect this move to create a yearly net savings of about $490 million by 2020.

Wal-Mart Programs and Recognitions
Wal-Mart is one of the many American companies who practice corporate generosity through the VAP or Volunteerism Always Pays Program and has donated millions of dollars to charity, including Truck Buddy International, an organization that aims to assist elementary school children in improving geography, writing and math skills by matching them with a Wal-Mart Private Fleet trucker. Every week, the trucker sends a letter or postcard to the children with a description of the places, people and things that he meets and sees along the way. The children in turn send him a monthly letter. This correspondence lasts for one school year.

Today, there are more than 150 Wal-Mart truckers who participate in the Trucker Buddy Program. They are part of the international group of more than 4,000 truckers who maintain a correspondence with children in their respected areas.

Wal-Mart has a yearly recognition awards that honor the best carriers in different categories. Some of those categories are Innovative Carrier of the Year, Produce Carrier of the Year, Express Carrier of the Year and Rising Star Carrier of the Year. The criteria for the awards include excellence in customer service, efficient follow up and correction of errors and significant show in revenue and growth.
