Understanding Energy Healing

Even though energy healing is quite widespread throughout holistic medicine, there is still so much mystery as to how, and if, energy therapies actually work. Everything is made up of energy, including our bodies. Every person has regions in their body, called chakras, that store this energy and the patterns the energy creates. Energy patterns are results of events that have occurred during a person’s life. Some patterns are good while others represent the emotional scars of unhappy memories. Memories are sometimes hidden away deep within the chakras, and usually don’t go away no matter how hard we try to forget them.

Modalities like Body Talk focus on removing the “congestion” of emotional blockages that form in our energy fields (auras) and energy centers (chakras). Once these blockages are cleared, the energy channels can resume their task of integrating the mind, body and soul to promote and restore healing.

Strong proponents of energy medicine believe that each individual is made up of a multi-body system. In other words, each of us has an etheric body, a mental body, an emotional body, and an astral body. Everything that we think or do, everything that happens to us, impacts us on each of these levels. These impacts, no matter how large or small, manifest in the form of energy that penetrates each of our “bodies”, leaving an imprint, the size and nature of which depend on the catalyst–the original source of impact.

Negative energy patterns can produce an imbalance in a person’s aura. During the course of our lives, we absorb a number of negative energies, such as sadness, anger, fear, jealousy, judgment, blame and doubt. Healing techniques that release the bad energy in our bodies help us to move toward a state of relief and contentment–the state most conducive to healing. If illness and disease are manifestations of bad energy, then balancing that energy is the first step in the healing process.

There are a few things to remember when receiving energy healing. The first is that your body has the ability to heal itself; by establishing a connection with your body’s wisdom, you learn what it needs. Secondly, optimal health is best achieved when there is clear communication between all the body’s systems. A synchronized body adjusts more easily to the stresses of life.

Theories on how energy medicine works can be found in quantum physics and holistic healing literature. Numerous studies on energy medicine and consciousness show strong support that something is, in fact, “happening” and recipients tend to respond positively to energy healing treatments, such as Body Talk. New York City has several healing centers that practice Body Talk, among other techniques.

If you’d like to gain a deeper understanding of energy healing and the science that supports it, visit a healing center–New York City is full of them, or read something from the measureless collection of books, articles, journals, etc., devoted to the topic.
