Treatment Found To Reverse Hair Loss

It is Possible Reverse Hair Loss, US Scientists Say

Going bald? Not to worry. Dont have to go after quacks either. A team of researchers in Pennsylvania say it is possible to regenerate damaged hair follicles. And they have successfully created new hair cells in mice.

Writing in the journal Nature, they say hair growth can actually be encouraged using a single gene. The human head comes equipped with 100,000 tiny hair follicles, from each of which grows a single hair.

Male pattern hair loss (MPHL) is a condition that affects as many as 50 percent of men by the age of fifty, but according to a new study, baldness may soon be a treatable condition.

Using pairs of identical twins, the study assessed the efficacy of dutasteride, a particular enzyme inhibitor, as a means of reducing hair loss and encouraging new growth, finding it to be an effective means of combating baldness.

Hair loss usually develops gradually and may be patchy or diffuse (all over) and also called is Baldness. Hair loss is so common that most of the time it is considered a normal variation and not a disease. Baldnessinvolves the state of lacking hair where it often grows, especially on the head. Both men and women tend to lose hair thickness and amount as they age. Inherited or “pattern baldness” affects many more men than women. About 25% of men begin to bald by the time they are 30 years old, and about two-thirds are either bald or have a balding pattern by age 60. Baldness typically refers to excessive hair loss from your scalp and can be the result of heredity, certain medications or an underlying medical condition.

Some women also develop a particular pattern of hair loss due to genetics, age, and male hormones that tend to increase in women after menopause. Some medicines can cause hair loss. Finally, hair loss may occur as part of an underlying disease, such as lupus or diabetes. Medicines that can cause hair loss include blood thinners (also called anticoagulants), medicines used for gout, medicines used in chemotherapy to treat cancer. Women may develop female-pattern baldness. In this form of hair loss, the hair can become thin over the entire scalp.Hair transplants performed by a physician is a surgical approach to transferring growing hair from one part of the head to another. Poor eating can contribute to hair loss. Eating a balanced, healthy diet is important for a lot of reasons, and it really benefits your hair.

Antiandrogens block DHT already produced and present in the blood stream from binding with hair follicles. Wear a hat. Vitamin E has a wide range of positive effects in cancer particularly vitamin E succinate. Don’t rub your hair too vigorously with a towel, either. Many hair experts suggest you consider putting away the blow-dryer and air drying your hair instead. Treatment of alopecia areata may require topical or injectable steroids or ultraviolet light.Hair transplants and scalp reduction surgery are available to treat androgenetic alopecia. Castor oil treatments were sometimes alternated with slathering the scalp with aloe vera juice, olive oil, equal amounts of rosemary tea and olive oil, onion juice, or onion juice mixed with honey.

In the study, one of each pair of twins was given 0.5 mg/day of the medication, the other receiving a placebo, with the results monitored over the course of a year. After both 6 and 12-month intervals, hair loss was found to not only have been halted in twins using dutasteride, but hair growth was actively improved. The rate of growth increased between the 6 and 12-month evaluations, while hair loss continued steadily in the placebo group.

MPHL is thought to be genetically controlled. As identical twins share the same genetic code, the study provides particularly convincing evidence of the efficacy of dutasterid
