Tips To Stop Biting Your Nails

Nice nails look exactly that…nice, really nice. Having neat or pretty looking nails is something that is noticed far more than you might think.

Some time ago I recall a nurse asking me what size my feet are. The question came out of the blue and rather surprised me. Apparently she had noticed my nail color, which was a shade of orange-red. Her husband had read a magazine article that reported a survey of men’s preferences that had concluded that the large majority of men were more attracted to a certain foot size combined with toenails that were painted red.

Men notice your nails and women notice your nails. Dinner companions, friends, acquaintances, interviewers and shop assistants all notice your nails. Not only that they make subconscious judgments about you depending upon how you present yourself, including the state and look of your nails. They might not know that they are doing this, but they will undoubtedly be doing so.

I was reminded of the importance of having nice nails only this last week whilst spending time with a young family member. Interestingly this young lady had only recently stopped biting her nails. I thus encouraged her to take great pride in her new image. We went for a manicure and pedicure together and over the next week I noticed how many times she glanced down and admired her nails. Her image had become, quite literally, more polished.

She mentioned how many times she had Googled “how to stop biting your nails” or “help to stop biting your nails” or “tips to stop nail biting”. I’m not sure what exactly the trigger was that tipped her hand and got her to stop biting her nails. You know yourself that there are always things in life that you know for a while that you would like to stop or to change but you kind of wait for a tipping point before you actually take action. It is only then that you will indeed make progress with your goals.

That tipping point is however more easily reached once you come to believe that the task you have set yourself is in fact relatively easy and therefore more doable. It is thus clear that the majority of goals that you might have depend to a huge degree upon your attitude towards them.

A non nail biter would feel the same trigger but take a different automated behavior path. They would reach for their nail clippers or nail file and neatly smooth out that roughness. The same triggering event simply sets in motion whatever your automated response is.

Hypnosis allows you to identify whatever triggers there are to your nail biting and to install alternative and more desirable reactions. This makes the task of habit change a whole lot easier that you might previously have thought.
