Researchers are reporting, over and over again, that by getting the omega 3 oils found in fish in your diet, you will reap health benefits for your entire life.
What health benefits does fish oil really have?
The benefits of the omega 3 oils found in fish oil begin with conception and finish up with a reduction in Alzheimer’s disease. The benefits also include optimum brain development, higher scores on intelligence tests, less depression, fewer headaches, a reduction in arthritis pain and protection against heart disease, prostate and breast cancer, diabetes and more.
So let’s start with conception. In order for healthy conception to occur, both the man and the woman need to have optimum amounts of the omega 3 fatty acids EPA and DHA in their bodies. For women, the omega 3 oils are important for egg production and for men, they’re vital for strong sperm.
And, once a woman is pregnant, the omega 3 fatty acids become vital for her baby’s brain development. Fish has traditionally been known as food for the brain. What’s interesting is that recently research has shown that nearly 70% of a babys brain and more than 60% of an adult brain is made up of the long chain omega 3 fatty acids like DHA that come from fish.
This is why the National Institutes of Health (NIH) is recommending that pregnant and nursing women supplement their diet with 1200 mg of pure omega 3 fish oil daily containing a balanced ratio of DHA and EPA.
The National Institutes of Health also recommends that all other adults consume at least 1000 mg of fish oil a day. Why? Well, take a look at these results.
Clinical trials have revealed that fish oil with EPA and DHA is particularly effective in preventing, reducing and treating inflammatory diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, colitis, bursitis, cystitis and other painful disorders.
And, even though it doesn’t cure these diseases, fish oil does give safe, natural relief without the negative side effects of most drugs.
Researchers have also shown that DHA and EPA help to naturally prevent heart disease by lowering blood pressure, improving cholesterol readings and preventing the arrhythmia and blood clots that can lead to stroke or sudden cardiac death.
And, as if all of the above fish oil benefits were not enough, new research is pointing towards positive results in the areas of Alzheimer’s disease and cancer.
Now you can see that the healthy benefits of taking omega 3 fish oil are overwhelmingly positive. But a recent study showed that 85% of the American population are deficient in omega 3 fatty acids.
If that didn’t get your attention, this will. Nearly 1/5 of the American people are so deficient in DHA and EPA that test methods are not able to detect any in their blood.
Are you and your family deficient? Here’s what you need to do. Get started eating more fatty fish (like salmon, tuna, herring, sardines and anchovies). You should also get your entire family on a daily dose of a high quality fish oil supplement.
