Teeth restorations can now be completed and used within the same day, with the help of CEREC technology. This technology enables dentists to create the dental restorations chair-side as the patient waits, and eliminates the need for a long waiting time as the restoration is created and finished in a separate laboratory.
All of the benefits of the teeth restoration can be fully utilised within the same day with the help of same day teeth using CEREC technology.
The CEREC Technology
CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Aesthetic Ceramics. The CEREC system is composed of three parts:
· A digital infrared camera;
· A milling machine
· A medical-grade computer
The infrared camera is used to obtain images of the affected tooth, as well as the whole cavity in preparation for the dental restoration. There is no need to use impression moulds which can be very uncomfortable when obtained; the digital images will serve as the guide for the creation of the restorations.
The images will be uploaded to the computer, where the dentist will work on the design the actual dental restoration using 3D CAD (Computer Aided Design) software. The design is done chairside, and can even be seen by the patient. The dentist will then use CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) to create the restoration onsite in the dental clinic.
Same Day Teeth Restorations with CEREC
The following teeth restorations can successfully be completed with CEREC:
· Natural-looking dental crowns
· Permanent dental (white) fillings
· Restoration of chipped or broken teeth
Advantages of CEREC Same Day Teeth Restorations
Improved Aesthetics Dental restorations made with CEREC technology are created to look exactly like natural teeth, so the smile will still look very healthy and natural after the treatment. The ceramic restorations are more aesthetically pleasing compared to plastic or metal restorations.
Immediate Improvements Aesthetic and functional improvements are immediately enjoyed with same day teeth restorations. CEREC technology enables the restorations to be created, and actually made, chairside while the patient waits. There is no need to wait for a few days or weeks for the restorations to be completed in a separate laboratory.
No Mould Impressions CEREC uses an infrared camera that takes digital images of the affected tooth, as well as the oral cavity. The images taken by this camera replaces the need to take mould impressions of the mouth. The patient will not have to experience the discomfort of having the impression material inside the mouth just to get an impression of the affected tooth (or teeth).
