Engagement Story – Let Her Find the Ring
When I proposed to my girlfriend, I wanted it to be an affair that the entire family was involved in. Thus, I decided to propose over the Easter holiday, when Clara’s sister and brother would be in town with her parents and grandparents. Of course, before I made any arrangements of my own, I consulted with the family to ensure that they would be fine with the arrangement.
Clara’s sister was the most excited about my idea for the proposal. She thought that it would be fun and romantic. I was actually pretty worried. This is what I decided to do:
We would have an Easter egg hunt with all of the kids (four of us). Whoever got the most eggs would win a golden egg. I was going to place the ring inside of the golden egg and all of the siblings were going to make sure that Clara got more eggs than any of us.
So, on Easter morning, we all took off around the yard to find Easter eggs. I was so nervous that I genuinely could even focus on finding any eggs. The entire time, I only picked up maybe one or two eggs. Clara and her sister raced to get more eggs. After the Easter eggs hunt, everyone gathered inside and spilled the eggs out on the living room floor. When it became obvious that Clara was the winner, I could feel the heat of everyone’s eyes staring at me – the next big thing to happen would be my proposal to their daughter, sister and granddaughter. I was the center of attention.
I don’t know is Clara’s knew that something was up, but everyone gathered around and was very interested in what was going on during the presentation of the golden egg. Her dad got out the video camera and her mom started taking her own pictures. As Clara received the golden egg, no one said a word. If I were her, I would be very suspicious, but she said she didn’t think anything of it.
Then, she opened the egg and it was my cue to kneel down before her and ask her for her hand in marriage. I took the egg from her and placed the ring on her finger. We have the whole thing on video. Afterwards, we took photos in the garden because it was such a nice day outside. I must admit, this was a great proposal!
