How to Play Low Hole – Card Game

A fun card game to play is called “Low Hole.” This card game is a variation of seven card stud poker. In stud poker, players are not allowed to draw additional cards from the deck; they play the cards they are dealt.

The Low Hole game has been one of my favorite card games and is very easy to learn. As with most poker games, players deposit an ante in the center of the table, called “the pot.” The ante is usually determined prior to beginning the game. The dealer shuffles the cards and deals clockwise around the table, ending with his or her self. For this seven card game, two cards are dealt face down to each of the players. The lowest card of these two cards is wild, and all cards like it in the player’s hand are wild. For example, if a player gets an eight and a four, the four is wild, and any other fours he or she gets that are face up are wild as well.

After the first two cards are dealt, betting commences, beginning with the player sitting to the left of the dealer. It is up to this player to “call,” “raise,” or “fold,” although, at this point, most players do not fold. The player can then open by betting the other players a set amount of money that his or her hand will win. The other players each get a chance to either call, raise or drop. If someone calls, that means they put in the same amount of money as the person before them. If someone drops, they are out of the game and do not have to put any money in. If someone raises, the rest of the players have the option to either call his raise or even continue to raise.

Once the first round of bets is completed, players begin to get three cards, face up. Each player is guaranteed at least a pair as they have at least one wild card in their hand, the “low hole” card. After each round of cards are dealt, betting commences with the person who first “opened” the game during the last round. If no one opened and everyone called, the betting commences with the person sitting to the dealer’s left.

The exciting part about this game is that a person cannot count on the “low hole” wild card to make his or her hand, as the final card is also dealt down and may turn out to be the lowest card. If, for example, a person has an eight and a four in his hand and two fours that were dealt turned up along with an Ace, he is looking at a hand with four aces (the four in his hand is wild as are the other fours – making them all Aces). The final card, however, can change his hand if it happens to be a three or a two. Then that card will be wild and the person no longer has four aces, but four fours.

Low Hole Card Game is one of the best poker games one can play. It is an easy game to learn and is a lot of fun when playing with friends and family.
