We are frequently cautioned that we just cannot have it all. We are taught that wanting to have our cake and eat it as well is a recipe for great disappointment. When one hears such cautionary phrases and sayings often enough the tendency is to lower ones expectations and to dare not to dream of having it all.
This in itself can cause a very negative effect. If you do not dream of having it all then you close your mind to whatever possibility there might have been that you could just get lucky. To remain open and optimistic means that you may end up disappointed but you are at least in with a chance.
The truth is that if you really, really want something and focus upon it enough you will usually find a way in which to achieve it. Your mind works on end results so to speak. And so to allow yourself to dream of having it all allows your subconscious mind to work towards achieving just that.
Fear is what gets in the way of success. If you are afraid that something will go wrong then it usually will. If you tell yourself to not think about an elephant, you know what happens; a great big picture of an elephant appears seemingly out of nowhere. If you are afraid of being disappointed you have in fact gotten yourself on a fast track to disappointment.
You hear the phrase “feel the fear and do it anyway”. What is really meant by this is to acknowledge your fears but at the same time not to take them to heart. The key lies in not allowing your fears to have an emotional impact, to not feel them in an emotional sense. If you keep fear in a conscious and logical yet non-emotional area of your mind then they will not hurt you.
We do this with many things, often without realizing it. For example you know that to step off of the sidewalk and onto a busy road without looking both left and right you are likely to be hit by a moving vehicle. You do not allow that fear to have an emotional impact. You don’t worry about being run over by a bus or panic about crossing the road. You retain the knowledge of what is safe or not at a more logical level. You cross roads safely whenever you wish to do so. Your fear does not get in the way of your success.
