Most of my life has been a constant battle with being overweight (and most of the time I’ve lost!).
Why am I telling you this? I’m not proud of this fact, in fact it’s pretty embarressing. But the good news is that I’ve finally figured out why I was fat and why most of my life has been this battle. It has nothing to do with medical conditions. It has EVERYTHING to do with my self belief.
Society sometimes makes us believe things that aren’t necessarily true and ultimately this can hold us back from what we most desire. Well I believe that my battle with the bulge is something I’ve imposed upon myself.
For some reason, deep down I believed that I’m a fat person and my natural body weight is higher than most other people. Now obviously this isn’t really true, but on a subconscious level this is what I think.
I tried to think back in my life and why I would have accepted such a bizzare belief. Maybe it goes back to when I was a young child. I remember my mum saying I was born a big baby… maybe it just kind of stuck.
But whatever the reason, I can now see clearly that it just something I have believed about myself for a very long time.
And this is why diets don’t work for me. Don’t get me wrong, I have lost a lot of weight in the past. 10 years ago I lost nearly 60 pounds, but slowly I crept back to my self imposed ‘natural’ weight. It’s what deep down I perceive as my comfort zone.
So guess what… I’ve now started a new self belief. My ‘natural’ body weight is 50 pounds lighter. I’m tired of my little girl calling me fat daddy. I’m tired of being breathless and ashamed to look in the mirror.
Think about your weight. Do you believe your current weight is your ‘natural’ weight?
If you’re overweight you may deny it, but deep down it is probably something you accept about yourself. It’s time to change and adapt a new self belief.
You’ve probably heard the famous quote ‘Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve’ – well it’s absolutely true.
In most areas of my life I have started to move towards my dream. I’ve worked hard on understanding myself and what I want out of life. A big part of that is helping others, and that’s coming true. Because I believed it unquestionably.
Now it’s time to conquer my biggest battle, my crazy idea that I’m naturally fat. If you’re overweight, join me on this journey. If you have other limiting self beliefs, now’s the time to examine them and make your mind up to conquer them. Maybe you believe you can never be successful, be wealthy, find peace. You can.
You can achieve anything you desire, you just need to examine what is holding you back, you have to identify these negative thoughts. They could be lurking in the recesses of your mind without your awareness.
Once a belief pops into your head and says you can’t do something, remember this isn’t true. You must challenge yourself, you must remember you can achieve anything you want. Ignore any thoughts that say you are limited in any way.
Whatever you focus on expands. If you ignore these self limiting beliefs they will slowly disappear. If you pick one thing about your life you want to change, it will take 28 days of devotion to become part of your new belief system. Then your habits and behaviours will change, and ultimately your results will change.
Here’s 2 things you can do to install a new belief system –
1. Awareness of the negative self limiting belief. Realization that this belief is just part of your reality, it isn’t necessarily true.
2. Discipline to ignore this negativity and focus on empowering beliefs.
e.g old belief (excuse) – I can’t stick to a diet, I’m too weak willed
new belief – I enjoy eating healthy foods, I am getting slimmer and healthier every day
If you believe you can do it, you can. If you believe you can’t do it, you’re also going to be right. If you believe you’re already at your ‘natural’ weight, or the highest income you can ever earn, you’ll always going to struggle to change.
Remove these limitations, they’re not real.
Can you do it? I believe you can.
Do you believe?
“Within you right now is the power to do things you never dreamed possible. This power becomes available to you just as soon as you can change your beliefs” – Maxwell Maltz
