Could lipstick change your life?

.. A man’s face is his autobiography. A woman’s face is her own work of fiction.

The Butterfly Effect….. Did you know one of the most ancient symbols for beauty is the image of a butterfly? It all has to do with “TRANSFORMATION” and that’s what my love affair with make-up is all about. It’s astounding how a few touches of color and a bit of definition can bring out an individual’s beauty potential, confidence and maybe even more.

Not long ago I observed a small group of women in my local market, one in particular caught my attention. She was attractive, well dressed and wore a shade of red lipstick that really suited her. She was probably in her late 60’s or early 70’s, but what made me grin was the way she blatantly teased and flirted with the fishmonger who was serving her (a man in his 40’s). I have no idea of what she was saying, but everyone was smiling. Do you think that red lipstick had something to do with her swagger (or should we say empowerment)?

Perhaps you’ve heard of the “Butterfly Effect”. This is the theory that states that a butterfly fluttering it’s wings in one part of the world creates an air current (cause) that actually changes weather patterns somewhere else (effect). It’s hard to imagine how much our individual lives make any difference on planet earth, but this needs addressing. Feeling good about yourself is an important key towards creating a better world. The lady in the market touched us all because she felt “Gorgeous”. She made a positive impact and had fun doing it.

Part of my life-mission is dedicated to women of all ages, everywhere…… I want to be the protagonist who gets you to go out and have that facial, manicure, spa treatment, new hair cut or whatever it is you need to feel gorgeous (you are worth it!). Just think of it as your own small contribution and investment in humanity! Make time for beauty, girls!
A friend of mine, Mary Kenny gave me a great idea. She suggested I contact a Spanish Cancer support group and find out if there was anything I could do (as a make-up artist) to enhance the lives of women going through this challenge. I met the PR of Estee Lauder (a big supporter of the Association Español Contra Cancer). My suggestions about make-up classes were met with great enthusiasm. The “transformation” that takes place during our two classes each month is a joy for everyone involved

I am always on the lookout for interesting new beauty/self-improvement information and have come across some great products you might like to know about. I’ve also discovered some interesting web-sights that can give you a some daily support and encouragement.

Origins products are one of my favorites. “Calm to your Senses” is scented with Lavender and Vanilla… the body cleanser makes taking a shower a luxurious, rejuvenating experience. The hydrating face cream “Plantidote Mega-Mushroom” (formulated by Dr. Andrew Weil) is reasonably priced and very effective.

In March I met Dr. Weil and his wife, Kathey when they were here in Madrid to promote his new book “Healthy Aging”. One of the points he made was about how we value mature wines, cheese, violins and other priceless antiques, but not older people. At the presentation he said:

“What I really want to help change with my book and tour is our culture. I want to endorse the idea of aging gracefully. I am aiming to have people mobilize people to look at and value what can improve with aging, such as wisdom, life experience, relationship skills and being more creative.”
Interesting perspective, no? Please, check out these web-sights….
