Beauty and the Holidays – Makeup and Skincare Needs

The holidays are approaching so fast. Christmas parties are popping up everywhere and wanting to look your best seem to follow suit. For the black tie affair, it’s all about glamourous shimmers. But for the office party, or the family and/or friends get together, looking your best is still the theme for the season.

This is a time to assess your makeup and skin care needs to ensure that you will look your best for all your holiday activities.

Cleansing the face to remove dirt, debris and all traces of makeup is fundamental to good skin care. You should never go to bed with makeup on. Not only will you quickly add years to your skin, but clog pores and pimples will soon follow if you have oily skin. Drier complexions should use our Moisture Protecting Cleansing Lotion to effectively dissolve makeup and other impurities from the skin. And if your skin is dry but also very sensitive, then our dermatologist-tested, Ultra Gentle Cleansing Lotion is the right one for you.

I’m a firm believer in toning the skin after cleansing to refine pores, refresh and restore while preparing the way for your moisturizer. Drier complexions need to keep their skin hydrated and should use an alcohol-free toner to hydrate deep within skin layers. Our Visibly Moist Toner for dry skin will capture and hold moisture where it’s needed most. If you’re oily and prone to frequent break-outs, then a toner is not for you. Here you will want an astringent such as Pore-Purifying Astringent to help skin stay clear and healthy-looking, while helping to dry blemishes without drying your skin.

After thoroughly cleansing and toning the skin, a good moisturizer is essential to repair, soothe and comfort skin’s natural protective barrier. Applying your moisturizer when skin is still slightly damp will help to skin to retain more moisture. Our lightweight moisture lotions to sumptuous crèmes retexturize, smooth, and hydrate your skin morning and night. Our Customers choice for daily wear is our lightweight Moisture Replenishing Crème, which forms a reservoir of moisture that lasts up to 20 hours.

Let’s not forget about the men. I love to see a man looking good and well-groomed, especially during the holidays. For the man who wants smart solutions, we offer our multi-purpose Wash-Out Cleanser and Shave Gel. The man who shaves can expect an irritation-free shave while White Tea and Licorice keep skin calm when washing.

Yes, men need to moisture too especially in the cold winter months. Our greaseless, Featherweight Face Lotion contains hydrating Vitamin E, Panthenol and Glycerin to drive moisture deep into skin. Even the toughest beard feels softer.

Now that we have assessed our skin care needs, let’s move on to our makeup needs.

Foundation is used to enhance the beauty of the skin you’re in. When choosing the right shade of foundation, choose one to match your skin type as well as your skin tone. Industry experts suggest that you choose the shade closest to your skin tone by testing it on your jaw line. However, my experience has shown that this is not always true especially in the African-American community. Many women are darker on their chins than they are on the rest of the face. Therefore, I have found that testing on one side of the entire cheekbone is more accurate in choosing the right shade for your skin tone. You can then compare the side of the face with the foundation to the side without the foundation. If you can only tell which side has the foundation on by its smoothness, then you have chosen the right shade for your skin tone. When applying your foundation, be sure to blend in the direction of your facial hair. Doing so will allow for a smooth and flawless application. However, when applying to your forehead, blend across and then up into your hairline for a unified tone.

Depending on your skin type, there are a variety of foundations to choose from. If you have dry skin with facial discoloration but want that flawless holiday look, then the Correct-Cover Cream Foundation is perfect for covering blemishes, birthmarks and other skin flaws. Our Foundation Stick SPF 18 is also an excellent choice as it features a concealer and foundation in one convenient stick. Normal to dry skin types who wants a more moderate to full coverage, try our Crème-Powder Foundation SPF 20 which provides a smooth finish with the setting priorities of a powder. If you want that flawless, matte look, then our Liquid Matte or Matte Finish Foundation is right for you. And for a more sheer coverage, you’ll simply fall in love with our sheer, water-based Liquid Jojoba Foundation which offers light to medium coverage. Applying loose or pressed powder with a brush will set your foundation for all day wear.
