Skin care tips to help prevent wrinkles and other signs of aging
Looking forever young has never been more important than it is today. And with role models from the movie and music industries looking forever young and displaying everlasting young features, it is no surprise that people, especially women of all ages are becoming increasingly aware of the societal perception of the perfect woman.
I am sure you will want to be forever young… if it was within your power. Sadly, it isn’t. As you grow old, the aging process begins and gradually your once beautifully young face begins to develop wrinkles.
Do you want to know what causes the skin to age and wrinkle?
The two most prevalent factors are exposure to solar radiation and loss of hormones. These factors lead to excessive oxidation of collagen and elastin fibers resulting in the wrinkling of the skin.
I am sure your next question is – can you stop skin aging?
No, you can’t.
The truth is that it is almost impossible to stop the natural aging process. The earlier you accept and live with this the better you will feel… when the time comes.
However, you can delay that time from coming too quickly. That is, it can be possible to delay the aging process.
The most popular and cost effective way of delaying or preventing wrinkles through aging is the use of anti aging skin care products.
Depending on your age, skin type, genetic make up and exposure to sunlight, you may have started seeing lines, wrinkles, and age spots. And as you become older, these signs of aging are inevitable.
But don’t fret at all, because advances in skin care techniques have made it possible to minimize and, in certain cases, reverse the damages that time, a euphemism for age, and environment has caused.
Overtime, the sun’s ultraviolet light damages the fibers in the skin called elastin. The breakdown of elastin causes the skin to lose its ability to snap back after stretching. As a result wrinkles from gravity are also at work- pulling at the skin and causing it to sag. This is mostly noticeable on the face, neck and upper hand.
Many products currently in the market claim ‘to revitalize aging skin’ but the American Academy of Dermatology says these over the counter ‘wrinkle’ creams and lotion may soothe dry skin… but they do little or nothing to reverse wrinkles.
So, what cream or skin care method works?
The Academy says the only product that are safe and effective and approved by the Food and Drug Administration to treat aging skin are Retinoid cream, Carbon Dioxide (CO2) and erbium lasers.
To prevent unsightly wrinkles and other signs of aging on your skin, it will require a huge and disciplined skin care regimen on your part.
Studies show that if you apply sunscreen everyday to your skin, it will begin to repair itself. If you want those sagging and wrinkled part of your skin to be minimized, this is one good method to adopt. And think about it… it is relatively inexpensive.
Ever heard about retinoid? It is an anti aging form of Vitamin A, and it works by normalizing the rate of skin cell production. You will want to consider adding retinoid to your skin care routine.
Good old vitamin C, ascorbic acid to some, has been a vital companion of humans from time immemorial. This is no surprise that Vitamin C lotion is employed in skin care by the aging person. It helps to fade brown spots by suppressing the production of the skin pigment melanin.
Lastly, aging, especially that of the skin, is inevitable, but you can fight it headlong by aging gracefully.
