How To Play 500 Rummy – Card Games

There are many variations of “rummy” card games. Gin Rummy is probably the most well known, but 500 Rummy is a fun game that can be played by itself or by using points.

To play 500 Rummy, each person is dealt seven cards, face down. The remaining part of the deck is placed face down in the center of the table and the first card is flipped up. The first player must draw a card and must discard one card in his or her hand onto the face up pile. Unlike Gin Rummy, the face u pile is spread out so the players can see the cards behind the discards. The discarded, face-up pile is kept in a line of cards and a person can draw a card from anywhere in the line, provided that he or she takes all of the cards that were discarded after that card.

The objective of the game, like Gin Rummy, is to build sets of cards; however, they do not have to be kept in the player’s hand. Each time a player gets three of a kind, either three of the same card, such as three Kings, or three of the same suit in a row, he or she can lay them down on the table after drawing a card. Players must have a card to discard, however, during each turn.

Other players, during their turns, can not only put down their “sets,” but add on to another person’s set. If, for example, one player has the two, three and four of clubs set down on the table as a “set,” another player can put down the five or Ace of clubs to add on to the set. The same applies if a person has three Kings in front of them and another person gets the remaining King. Adding to a set or putting down a set must take place after the person has drawn their card and prior to discarding.

Unlike Gin Rummy, individuals are allowed to have more than seven cards in their hand. This sometimes happens if a person needs a card that another player has discarded and decides to pick up all of the cards discarded after and including the needed card. If a person picks up a discarded card, they must lay down the used card in a set during their play.

The game ends when someone goes out. To go out, a person must both pick up a card and have one discard. Normally, players get down to one card each and proceed to pick up cards from the top of the deck until they get one that can be added on to another set and therefore giving them the card in their hand to discard.

Once someone goes out, their points are added. Each face card is worth 10 points, Aces are worth 15 points if used high, five points if used low. The other cards are normally worth five points. Some variations to the point system include using the actual number of the card as a point instead of five points. The person who goes out gets to add up all the points in the sets he has in front of him or her, as do the rest of the players. However, players with cards in their hands must take off the number of points they hold in their hand from their total.

When a person reaches 500 in points, they win. 500 Rummy is an easier game to play than Gin Rummy and is easy to learn. This card game is a perfect form of family entertainment.
