How To Play Go Fish – Card Games
One of the most beloved card games for both young and old alike is also one that is relatively easy to play. Virtually everyone in the United States has, at one time or another, played the card game “Go Fish.”
Go Fish, or simply “Fish” is an ideal game for young children to play. The game can be played using a standard deck of playing cards, or with a special “Fish” deck. Decks for young children include pictures of things such as oranges, cats and baseballs instead of the numbered and face cards seen in a standard deck. The concept of the game, however, is the same no matter what type of deck of cards you use.
In “Go Fish,” each player is dealt a total of five cards down. The objective of the game is to get as many pairs as possible and then go out. In a way, it is similar to Gin Rummy, except the players are allowed to ask other players if he or she has a particular card.
For example, each player is dealt five cards with a standard deck of cards. They look at their cards and do not reveal them to anyone else. The player on the left of the dealer usually goes first. He or she will look at the cards in his or her hand and put any pairs of cards on the table. He or she then decides to ask for one card that is in their hand. They can usually ask anyone at the table, but only one person. If they are holding a five, seven, ten, Jack and Ace, they may ask another person if they have an Ace in an attempt to get a match. If the person asked has an Ace, they have to give it to the person who asks them. The first player can continue trying to get matches from different people until he or she is told “no.” If a person does not have the card required, they instruct the asker to “go fish,: which means that the player has to draw another card from the deck.
As the objective of the game is to go out, it is advisable to try to get rid of as many cards by making pairs as possible. There is no limit as to how many cards a person can have on them at one time and many people begin to accumulate more than five cards in an attempt to match.
Unlike Gin Rummy, the players in “Go Fish” do not discard any cards. The only way to get cards out of their hands is to match them with other cards.
The person who gets rid of all of their cards first is the winner of the game. In many ways, Go Fish is similar to rummy, with the exception of not discarding and asking other players for cards that are in their hands. Although “Go Fish” has the reputation of being a children’s game, when played with a standard deck of playing cards, it can be a fun game for old and young alike.
Go Fish is probably one of the easiest card games to play. Go Fish decks for children usually come with a variety of different photos, making it a simple game for even young children to play. It is also a fun way to teach children to recognize numbers.
