Kids need bodyguards too

It is hard to imagine a child being surrounded by a wall of bodyguards, but it is common in today’s society. As celebrities continue to have children and paparazzi infestation grows, more and more children are growing up in the public eye. Just like their famous parents, these kids are subject to all kinds of threats that come along with being famous. Whether it is an adoring fan or malicious stalker, the danger is out there, and so are the bodyguards attempting to stop it.

Perhaps the most famous children in Hollywood right now are the Jolie-Pitt brood. These kids didn’t just grow up in the spotlight, they were adopted by it. Brad and Angelina have made it clear that they value their privacy and have made sure to surround themselves and their children with as many professional bodyguards as necessary. This is does not go without probable cause. The paparazzi and others have gone to great lengths to sneak peeks of the Jolie-Pitt darlings. One photographer even scaled the wall of Maddox’s preschool when he was just four years old. It’s no wonder these kids are covered in bodyguards.

Madonna has made a career out of spreading controversy. Her latest addition came when she adopted a child from Malawi. She’s not the first celebrity to adopt a child from a foreign country, but she is the first to cause a country to uproar about it. If the adoption is successful, Madonna will more than likely make use of a bodyguard or two for herself, her two biological children and the one she hopes to add to the family. Malawi law states that to adopt a child from their country, Madonna would have to live there for 18 months with the child. The rules seem to be bending for the Queen of Pop, and many people are strongly against her. The threats to Madonna and her family should cause an increase in bodyguard attention over the next several months.

Children of celebrities are not the only kids that make use of bodyguards. Some kids are famous in their own right and need bodyguards for the same reasons that other actors and actresses do. A prime example of celebrity children who underwent constant bodyguard protection in their early years are Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen. The twins were a household name before they could spell theirs. At the age of 18 they became executors of their own money and the CEOs of a multimillion dollar empire built around their sweet image. Mary Kate and Ashley have needed bodyguards from the time they were babies on Full House. Other huge child stars, such as Dakota Fanning, Haley Joel Osment, and many have grown up amidst a barrage of bodyguards.

It is unfortunate that so many children in and around Hollywood must constantly be watched by a team of bodyguards to stop the press, the public and the occasional insane fan from harming them. This is, however, the price of fame. Whether they are children of celebrities or coming into their own in show business, they will always be subject to greater threats than most average children, and bodyguards will be a constant necessity.
