What Exactly is a Trophy Wife?

You may have encountered the term in a magazine or even in a novel. Many people have used this term either in pity or in condemnation but do you really know what the term “trophy wife” means? Has anyone actually taken the time to go beyond assumptions and analyze what exactly makes a trophy wife? Well, there are various qualities that actually need to be filled in order for a woman to become a “true” trophy wife. Most people know these qualifications vaguely through instinct, but the specifics somehow escape them. After all, who would ever think that there are actually specific qualities which determine if a lady is a trophy wife or not?

Here are the various qualities of a trophy wife:

1) Successful husband – All trophy wives have husbands who are successful in one or more aspects of life. Although most of the trophy wives today have husbands who are successful financially, a trophy wife could also be married to someone who is successful in terms of fame or even just in terms of physicality.

Usually, trophy wives have little or nothing to do with their husbands’ successes. A trophy wife usually arrives after all the hard work is done and merely goes along for the ride through success. This is probably where the name comes from, as some men are willing to get the most beautiful, albeit the shallowest, wives in order to prove that their special qualities make them deserving of such wives.

Thus, a trophy wife serves the purpose of an actual trophy: showing off the importance of the man to other people. Most husbands actually treat trophy wives no differently from trophies and so, they end up being used by their trophy wives for their power, money or wealth.

2) Youth – It may have something to do with the fact that men think sleeping with someone young is equal to being young, but most trophy wives are considerably younger than their husbands. In fact, there is a common formula used to discern the maximum age of a trophy wife for a man. They say that the lady has to be 7 years older than the man’s age when halved. Thus, a 40-year-old man would have a trophy wife who’s 27 years old.

No one can deny the fact that a trophy wife’s youth gives her an advantage in terms of physical appearance. However, people have to realize that aging is inevitable. Youth may have its advantages, but these advantages fade eventually. Since the trophy wife mostly acts like a trophy, when her beauty fades, so will her value. Because of this, there is another characteristic of the trophy wife that everyone observes but no one likes to talk about. This will be discussed next.

3) Gold digging – The harsh reality is that almost all trophy wives have ulterior motives in getting together with their husbands. They are either after money or any other benefits brought to them by the husband’s accomplishments. Once a man gets a trophy wife as a lifetime partner, he better start watching out for his life and his possessions. It is not a question of love and trust. It is a question of reality and self-delusion. Men have got to start facing the fact that not every woman will fall for their charms. They need to face reality that a trophy wife whom they value for her beauty may only value them for their cash.
