Trophy

What a Trophy Should Signify

Trophies are objects awarded to different people in recognition of achievements in certain events, especially sports. There are various designs and materials used in the construction of a trophy. However, does the physical trophy actually matter?

There are a lot of people who say that a trophy serves as a reminder of who a person is. This statement has a point. The trophy can serve as a reminder of who a person is, whether it reminds the person or the people around the person. There are certain instances in a person’s life when he or she feels self-pity. During these instances, a person often feels like there’s no point to his or her life.

During periods of depression, a person often forgets the great things that he or she did and focuses instead on all of the negative things that he or she has experienced. Wallowing in these emotions causes a person to turn to despair and sometimes, needs some sort of symbol in order to bring him or her to the realization that he or she is good for something. A trophy is often seen by many people to be just the symbol to do that.

A trophy is often seen as a symbol of a person’s capabilities. It serves as a reminder to the person that he or she is capable of achievements which are great in the eyes of other people. However, there are also those who make use of trophies in order to make sure that people will continually look up to them. These people are often conceited and use the trophies to make sure that everyone considers them superior.

In cases like these, the trophy has often become bigger than the actual achievement. This type of behavior usually taints the image of people who place trophies in display cases. This type of behavior usually causes people to look down on various trophies as being mere objects which signify nothing but sheer luck or even corruption.

What should a trophy signify? Should it be seen as a mere object or should it be seen as the proof of someone’s identity? You should realize by now that person cannot truly be summarized by something as trivial as a trophy. No matter how great an achievement that the trophy represents, it only represents a single facet of a person’s identity. Although you can learn a lot about a person by looking at his or her deeds, you will not know who that person truly is by looking at the trophy alone.

People should treat trophies as reminders of great deeds, but they should not define their whole lives based on that trophy. A trophy should serve as something which inspires you to become truly great, not something which limits your personality to past greatness.

There are also certain trophies which are passed on from generation to generation of winners. These trophies carry a heavy legacy. And people tend to be intimidated by that. In being presented with a trophy like that, a person faces the great challenge of living up to the name carried by all the winners of that trophy. A person can do this, however, the better choice would be to go beyond the accomplishments of other people and become the person who truly gives glory to the trophy. Don’t rely on the trophy to give glory to you.
